Victoria's Promise - Support for Young Women with Cancer

About

Victoria's Promise supports young women, and their families, through cancer and beyond.

Victoria's Promise provides support through In Person Support and Services:
* In Person Support (female patients receiving treatment at Frimley Park, North Hampshire and Royal County Winchester Hospitals): When a referral is received, Victoria's Promise arrange to visit the young woman at her home. This enables them to get to know her, her family and how the home operates. They are then able to chat about what will ease the effects of her being diagnosed with cancer. This changes at varying stages, and is set up to help through the whole experience. They also organise VP Connects which are coffee mornings bringing together 2-3 young women on a similar pathway in a close geographical area and enables them to have a nearby peer group. They run VP Meet-Ups in varying locations where women can come together to feel part of a supportive community and take part in shared experiences and activities including relaxation and craft sessions.
* Services: Victoria's Promise tailor and organise paid-for services to help meet the emotional, physical and practical needs of our young women and their families.
These services are provided by third parties and can include alternative therapies, counselling for the woman and family members or home cleaning to ease the burden during periods of debilitating treatment. However, very often there are specific one off services to meet individual needs. Nationwide peer support is available via the Victoria’s Promise App which provides young women with the opportunity to share concerns, offer friendship and support and feel connected to other young women who are experiencing similar challenges due to their cancer diagnosis.
