Odiham District u3a
About
Monthly meetings are held on 1st Wednesday each month in the 16th century Cross Barn in Odiham and are usually available at a later date to view online.
The meeting starts with a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits, and enables members to engage in relaxed conversation and exchange of ideas before a talk on anything from beekeeping to climbing. For those wishing to attend in person, in order to avoid disappointing someone who has made the effort to walk there, a booking system is used to allocate space; there will be no charge.
A broad range of activities, groups, meetings, events and visits are offered which are led by members' interests and include a variety of arts & crafts, languages, games, health & fitness and social. Some groups such as Science and Technology and Wildlife have an external speaker or demonstrator. For up to date programme details, please see their website and newsletter or contact them directly.
About u3a - Odiham District
Odiham District u3a is a result of the enthusiasm of members of the local community to pursue new interests together, make new friends and to enjoy learning at their own pace. This works as a learning and leisure co-operative to share interests, knowledge and skills: whether none at all or extensive. In other words there are no formal qualifications needed to join - just an open mind! Odiham District u3a now has over 700 members, mainly from Odiham and surrounding villages, who are no longer in full time employment.
They are part of the International u3a movement founded in France in 1972. In 1982 it started in the UK under three founding fathers who shared a common vision: one where older people had access to education by controlling it themselves. There is neither a lower nor an upper age limit and no qualifications are required or given. What makes u3a unique is the fact that everything is done by members.
Learn, socialise and enjoy
Activity Groups are the core part of the ethos of a u3a and one of the priorities is to ensure a wide range of successful groups available for members. The success of our groups is the direct result of the inspiration, leadership and efforts of our group leaders. The style of meeting is informal and friendly in varying sizes of groups. Some members lead groups, some share tasks - it is up to each individual how committed and involved he or she becomes.
