Odiham Castle
About
Ruins of a 13th Century royal hunting lodge near North Warnborough. A scheduled ancient monument, known locally as "King John’s Castle", situated next to Basingstoke Canal. This site has witnessed and been part of many historical events, from the signing of the Magna Carta, a French siege to the ownership of the de Montforts, a revolt and even the imprisonment of a Scottish King.
Access to the castle is via the towpath along Basingstoke Canal. The towpath from Odiham is level, but being adjacent to water must be approached with care. There is a surfaced ramp from the towpath to the castle, thereafter access is firm and level. Parking is available at Colt Hill Wharf Car Park - RG29 1DH
